From the ever vibrant city center to the concrete jungle of Taipa or the (every time less) quiet Coloane, many choices are available to find a place to live in Macau .

Average monthly rental prices (which rose sharply in the last few years) range from MOP2,500 (remote location, cramped and dark) to MOP25,000 (views, furnished, good location). A nice flat in a good location will on average cost between MOP6,000.00 to 15,000.00, depending on whether it is furnished or not.

Check if the rental price already includes management fee (MOP400.00-1,500.00, depending on the quality of the building and the facilities & services available to the tenants).

You will need to pay:

- to the landlord: 1 or 2 months advance rental (serving as guarantee and which will be used to cover the final month(s) of your stay (providing you don't damage the property) & the first month rental.

- to the real estate agent/ agency: the equivalent to 1 month rental.

Don't forget to get receipts for everything, ask for a contract in English and if you feel like, take a Chinese friend with you to read and check if all is well.

A few buildings have shuttle bus services (like Ocean Gardens in Taipa and Hellene Gardens in Coloane ) and even more have common facilities, such as gym, swimming pool, etc., that, in most cases, can be used for free.

It is still possible to find a few villas to rent in Taipa (near the old Hyatt, now Regency Hotel) and in Coloane (on the hill facing Cheoc Wan, on the road from Cheoc Wan to Hac Sa beach, right in Hac Sa beach or on the road from Hac Sa beach to the Westin hotel.
